tl;dr

Taking the time to prepare your model according to the following steps will significantly improve the final results. Note that processing time varies between 1-4 hours.

  1. Install Datasmith. This is a plugin developed by Epic Games and translates your 3D file into a format that can be processed by Palatial

    1. Once installed, Datasmith will appear as a toolbar in your 3D modeling software
  2. Prepare your file. Ensure that materials, plugins (eg. Vray licenses), and linked files are all accessible.

  3. Set saved views. These will be used for navigation in the web stream. To set where users start, preface one of your views with ‘start_’ (ie. ‘start_entryway’)

  4. Export the scene. This can be done using the Datasmith toolbar, or File > Export > Select Datasmith (.udatasmith) from the ‘Export as’ dropdown menu

    1. This will result in a [filename].udatasmith file and [filename]_assets folder. Right click on the assets folder and compress into a .zip.
  5. Upload files. Upload the .udatasmith file and asset .zip when prompted.

Model Units

Ensure that your file is scaled correctly and has the appropriate units setup.

Use the command ‘Units’ to check the units of your file, and make sure that the model units are set correctly. If you need to change the units, ensure that you scale your model accordingly.
