tl;dr

Taking the time to prepare your model according to the following steps will significantly improve the final results. Note that processing time varies between 1-4 hours.

  1. Install Datasmith. This is a plugin developed by Epic Games and translates your 3D file into a format that can be processed by Palatial

    1. Once installed, Datasmith will appear as a toolbar in your 3D modeling software
  2. Prepare your file. Ensure that plugins are enabled and all x-refs are accessible

    1. If using Corona Proxies, ensure they’re previewed as full meshes, otherwise they will not export properly
  3. Setup cameras. These will be used as saved views in the web stream. To set where users start, preface one of your cameras with ‘start_’ (ie. ‘start_entryway’)

  4. Export the scene. This can be done using the Datasmith toolbar

    1. This will result in a [filename].udatasmith file and [filename]_assets folder. Right click on the assets folder and compress into a .zip.
  5. Upload files. Upload the .udatasmith file and asset .zip when prompted.

Materials and Lights

Material support

Be aware that some specialized material nodes in 3dsMax are not supported. Unsupported materials will be substituted with a placeholder material that can be batch replaced in Unreal.
