Overview

Due to limitations with Datasmith, not all material types are supported. This is particularly true for highly complex or custom materials.

Palatial alleviates this problem by replacing unsupported materials with placeholder materials that can later be replaced or edited across a scene. Each unsupported materials will have its own placeholder.

Based on Palatial’s internal testing, we’ve found the following materials to be unsupported, or unrealiable when exporting with Datasmith.

3dsMax Unsupported Material Types

The following material types will not come in at all - materials using them will shows up as None and use default grid material. If they are used in Palatial they will be replaced by a placeholder material. Eventually our custom plugin will handle these cases by reconstructing the material from imported textures.

A corona renderer material used to override render channel contributions: tested in 3dsMax 2020, UE5.1, 5.2, 5.3. Material will show up as none
